The famous amusement park, Kings Island, is the home for many people of all ages throughout the year. The refreshing water park during the summer, Fear Fest during October, and Winter Fest in the cold month of December keep families occupied with something fun to do.
The feeling of being able to enjoy an environment without the disruption of juvenile children causing a ruckus is what makes Kings Island the attraction it is. In the year 2023, Kings Island put curfews and regulations in place so that they “can keep Kings Island a place where families and friends can come together to enjoy a one-of-a-kind park full of fun experiences and immersive entertainment.” The rules are beneficial to ensure the safety, enjoyment, and relaxation of visitors.
According to visitkingsisland.com, “The safety of our guests and associates has always been our top priority. Over the past two years, there have been increasing incidents of unruly and inappropriate behavior across our industry and at other major entertainment venues.” With the amount of disruptive behavior taking place around the park, putting rules into place will prevent the park from being treated like a playground.
The rules state that “all guests ages 15 years old or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old to be admitted to, or remain in the park.” This policy is in effect every day of the week starting at 4 p.m., except for Saturdays when a chaperone must be present by 2 p.m.
Sources like cincinnati.com mention that ” teenagers and pre-teens argue that the curfew is annoying because they can’t enjoy the parks after the curfew time and it takes away their summer fun. However, these curfews are only to ensure the main purpose of the park, which is to enjoy the amenities without the reckless behavior involved which caused major problems in years before.
Not only is Kings Island trying to get rid of unwanted behavior, but so is Kenwood Shopping Center. The two hot spots for young kids both have the same goal of creating a family-friendly environment that the entire community will appreciate.
The Cincinnati Enquirer shared an insight on the rules Kenwood Mall is adding and why it’s being done: “Mall visitors under 18 must be with an adult after 2 p.m. through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, kids under 18 must be accompanied by an adult from noon until the mall closes.”
During the holidays, Kenwood has its busiest times of the year which puts a lot of stress on the workers and staff. Adding these curfews allows the people working in the mall to focus on the customers and not have to worry about the unattended kids causing a scene and disrupting the work being done.
The fun that comes with amusement parks and shopping malls also has rules that need to be followed to allow for an exhilarating trip. Without these curfews being installed, there would be fewer people coming to visit due to the reckless behavior that could put families in danger. Even though safety is the biggest issue, so is ensuring a day to remember without the hassle of kids who think it’s okay to treat a public place like a game at recess.
Honoring these codes of conduct will allow these establishments to fulfill their commitments to protecting the fun by providing a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all guests.
