On October 21, Lakota East’s Environmental Advocates Forum (LEAF) Club hosted a tree planting event at East Main Campus. The goal was, with the help of a grant from Duke Energy, to help the environment, improve the look of the school and, according to Club Adviser Mark Folta, “[fulfill the] vision [to] reforest one acre area over by the interstate.”
“We did some landscaping work in front of the school to make it look pretty,” said LEAF Club President Gold Bristow. “Hopefully [those] will bring some color to the school.”East freshmen Audrey Williams and Shiloh Wolfork are two of the 37 students who had to be at the school by eight in the morning to participate in the project.Students Hannah Armentrout and Sophie Roque peek out from the behind the Dawn Redwood tree they planted, one of 20 total trees planted.East sophomore Maddie Barone pats down mulch around a Swamp White Oak tree.
