Sharing a birthday and finishing each other’s sentences, East seniors Kaya and Kenzie Lamb walk the East halls as the hallmark of identical twins.
“We like to do the same things, we like to go to the same places, and we share a lot of the same interests,” Kaya told Spark. “She’s just like my best friend; we do everything together.”
Doubling as best friends and twin sisters, Kenzie Lamb said that their passions and hobbies align.
“We like to hang out with friends, read the Bible, go to church, and do a lot of youth group activities,” Kenzie told Spark.
Spending time together is something that the twins do in many different aspects. Growing up, the girls said they have always played sports together, including basketball, lacrosse, and soccer.
Along with sports, the twins have continued their bond by working together.
“I love doing things together because there is always someone I know and trust with me,” said Kaya.
The twins shared that the most important thing they do together is grow their relationship with God.
“Towards the end of our eighth-grade year, we started following God. We decided to go to church and Young Life together,” said Kaya.
According to younglife.org, Young Life is a Christian ministry that reaches out to college, middle, and high school students, such as those attending East.
“The community in Young Life is great,” said Kenzie. “Everyone is so welcoming and inviting and it’s a safe space where I can be myself.”
Attending church and Young Life, the dynamic duo often has a third member who cherishes her relationship with the twins and their faith in God.
“I’m basically with them every day,” East senior Hailey Isacson told Spark. “Following Christ together has brought the three of us to be very close.”
Although the three of them spend time together, Isacson says that her relationships with the two are different. “I bond with them in different ways,” said Isacson.
“Kaya is the silliest person you’ll ever meet. I’ve never met someone who is so authentic to whoever she is around,” said Isacson. “She is very refreshing and that’s something I really treasure.”
Isacson also admires qualities in Kenzie, and notes that she loves the girls and their distinct personalities.
“Kenzie is very bubbly and very bright,” said Isacson. “She always brightens up a room when she smiles and it’s just one of those things where it’s a joy to be around her.”
Isacson says that people often ask how she can tell the difference between the twins, but once you know them it is very easy.
“Being friends with them, you notice the different qualities they have,” said Isacson.
Kaya and Kenzie agree that people often confuse them because they are identical.
“At least five times a week we’re getting asked who is who,” Kaya said with a laugh.
However, Isacson said that it is no problem for her, and she said that she “could close my eyes and know who is who.”
Even though they are identical, Kaya and Kenzie say that they have some features that help people differentiate them.
“Currently, we both have nose rings and they are pierced on different sides,” said Kaya. “It’s normally little things like that, and that’s how people can tell the difference.”
Despite some physical and personality differences, Isacson says that they overall share similar qualities.
“There is such a presence of joy in the room when I’m hanging out with them,” said Isacson.
Cherishing her relationship with both girls, Isacson said that, while they have separate relationships, she also loves it when they are all together.
“I couldn’t see only being friends with one of them,” said Isacson. “Having both of them makes my life so much better.”
Being born only 20 minutes apart, Kaya says that Kenzie is the closest person to her.
“We tell each other everything,” said Kaya. “I love her and all of the memories I have with her, even though I’d never admit that to her.”
Kenzie says they do not have the average sibling relationship, and she is grateful for the connection she has with Kaya.
“She makes me grow as a person and I know myself more because of her,” said Kenzie.
The answer to “Will the twins attend college together?” is absolutely. They plan to continue their norm and education at Miami University along with Isacson.
“We have pretty much always known that we would go together,” said Kaya. “It was great that we both liked the same college and I’m happy we are going to still be able to see each other.”
Staying close, the girls plan to room together as well. The college adjustment for the twins will come easily, having a sister and best friend to count on.
“Sometimes people talk about not seeing their siblings for a while when going off to college which I could never imagine,” said Kenzie. “I’m grateful for seeing her everyday.”
In college and beyond, both sisters agreed that they see themselves staying near each other.
“I feel like we will always be close,” said Kaya. “I don’t know if that’s in proximity or just our relationship but I know I’ll always have her.”
